Students enrolled in the CTECS Health Technology program are given instruction and demonstrate skills/knowledge in:

Health care safety, nutrition, characteristics of health care teams, National Health Care Standards, categories of health care facilities, legal/ethical/moral concerns in health care, effective communication including medical terminology.

The Health Technology program provides a broad-based exposure to a variety of health careers. Students’ progress in foundational health care skills and in grade 11 students are eligible to become certified nursing assistants.

Graduates can enter a variety of healthcare settings or continue their studies through short programs in the community or at postsecondary institutions. The following occupations are achievable based on education level:

  • Certified Nurse Assistant

Connecticut Technical Education and Career System’s Health Technology course breakdown by grade. Each student is required to complete four years of a Career Technical Education program.

Exploratory and Introduction to Health Technology Exploration of Health Care Career Clusters Nursing Assistant Certification Medical Assistant and Advanced Career Exploration

Students deciding to enter the field of Health Technology will be introduced to the basics of safety as well as infection control practices including personal and patient hygiene. The Health Technology program provides a broad-based exposure to a variety of health occupations. Instruction involves hands-on training in providing personal care for patients combined with theoretical instruction in the fundamental subjects of the health care industry. This includes nutrition, growth and development, medical-legal issues, human behavior, medical terminology, health care safety, introduction to public health and professional communication.
